THE PETE BEST BAND

The Night A Beatle Came To Town

Pete Best brought his band to play at Loco's Boneyard on Harris Street on July 30th, 2006.  It was a fun show without the sad aspect that I was sort of expecting.  I mean, c'mon, who doesn't kinda feel for Pete Best?  Even he has said that he still doesn't really know why he was dismissed from The Beatles in August 1962.  I met Mr. Best that night at Loco's and he was a nice enough guy, although he refused to say "Hi, this is Pete Best and you're listening to KPLA Radio" into my portable recorder.  His son did though!  Listen to it below, it didn't turn out very well.  What DID turn out well though, also included below, is the recording of The Pete Best Band playing their rendition of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say," a song Pete used to play back when he was still putting the beat in The Beatles.  As a side note, I'm almost certain that's me in the crowd shot (the tall dude drinking out of the blue solo cup).  Check it out!

In the summer of 2004, I somehow lucked into an all expenses paid, eleven-day rock tour of Spain.  While there, I became friends with a cool dude named Ramon who lived at the house in Zaragoza that was sort of serving as our home base.  We smoked many hash cigarettes together, drank wine, and talked music, alot.  He played me some of his favorite bands.  One of the bands he turned me onto was The Green Pajamas.  He made fun of me because here we were in Spain and he was telling me about a band from Seattle that I'd never heard of!  I didn't mind though, because I was (and still am) blown away by this band.  He burned me a copy of Indian Winter and I listened to it all the way through at least three or four times on the flight back home, totally in love with it.  The Green Pajamas formed in 1984 and are still around today.  This is a short, ten-song mix that I made for fun but this only scratches the surface of this amazing band.  They have 20+ albums and are probably recording some new shit as we speak...

Yankee Rose

Yankee Rose (1980)

There is nothing I can say about this band.  Nothing.  No one seems to even know what the band members' names were or where they were from, only that they were called Yankee Rose and they released an album called Yankee Rose in 1980.  That's it.  And, oh yeah, it's really good!

'Ven In '10

As you guys know, I've collected live bootleg recordings for a while now. I don't do it much anymore but this one caught my eye because of its rarity. This is a recording of Beethoven live at Madison Square Garden in 1810! Apparently it was recorded during the North American leg of his "Ven in '10" tour. Did you guys know his nickname was 'Ven? I didn't. According to the newspaper clip that came with the tape, people tailgated all day and got super-wasted for the show. I wasn't aware of how rabid 'Ven's fans were! Also, the recording quality here is top-notch! Great find. Unfortunately, only one song has surfaced from this show so far but here it is... 'Ven in '10
